Your AC Uses R-410A.
Here’s What That Means For You.
R-410A refrigerant is no longer being produced. Existing supplies are shrinking. Repair costs are climbing. Northwest Florida homeowners need to know their options — before an emergency forces the decision.
The Numbers You Need to Know
⚠️ What This Means If Your System Uses R-410A
If your air conditioner was installed before 2025, it almost certainly uses R-410A refrigerant. Your system will keep running — but the moment it needs a refrigerant recharge or a major repair, you’re paying premium prices for a refrigerant that’s no longer being made. The longer you wait, the more expensive your options become.
The R-410A Timeline: Where We Are Now
EPA Announces Phase-Out
EPA finalizes AIM Act rules. R-410A production and import to be banned starting January 1, 2025.
Production Ban Takes Effect
No new R-410A can be produced or imported into the U.S. Only existing stockpiles remain. Prices begin rising immediately.
⚡ You Are Here — Prices Rising, Supply Shrinking
R-410A costs 2–3x more than 12 months ago. Stockpiles are being depleted. Every month you wait, repair costs increase. This is the window to act on your terms, not under emergency pressure.
Supply Continues to Shrink
As remaining R-410A stockpiles deplete, recharge costs will continue to climb. Emergency replacements during a Florida summer will mean paying peak prices with limited contractor availability.
Full Phase-Out
R-410A expected to be fully unavailable for most applications. Systems still running on R-410A will be unrepairable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my system use R-410A?
If your air conditioner was installed before January 1, 2025, it almost certainly uses R-410A. The refrigerant type is listed on the data plate on the outdoor unit. Not sure? Call us and we’ll check it for free.
Is my system illegal to run?
No. Your existing R-410A system is completely legal to operate. The ban only affects the production and import of new R-410A refrigerant — not the use of existing systems. You can keep running your system as long as it works.
What happens if my R-410A system leaks refrigerant?
You’ll need to find the leak, repair it, and recharge the system with R-410A from existing stockpiles. This is still possible, but the cost of R-410A refrigerant has risen 2–3x since the ban took effect in January 2025, and it will continue to rise as stockpiles deplete.
What refrigerant do new systems use?
New systems manufactured after January 1, 2025 use R-454B (Opteon XL41) or R-32 refrigerant. These are lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants that comply with the EPA’s AIM Act requirements. They require new equipment — you cannot simply “convert” an existing R-410A system.
Are there tax credits for replacing my system?
Yes. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps and central air conditioners may be eligible for federal tax credits up to $2,000 per year. Ask our team about qualifying systems when you call.
How long does a system replacement take?
Most residential HVAC replacements take one day. Our crews are trained to complete full system swaps efficiently — you’ll have cool air by evening. We also offer financing options to spread the cost over time.
